Astrida Neimanis (BA McGill, MSc London School of Economics, PhD York) is a writer, academic and seasoned lakewater bather. She is currently finalizing her book manuscript entitled Bodies of Water, which explores ontologies of embodiment and relational ethics from the perspective of all bodies' watery constitution. New projects continue to explore our transcorporeal empathy with aquatic animal others (another joint project with Chandler), the ontological implications of "bodies of water, once removed" through biotechnological practices of sperm banks and amniotic fluid archiving, and the ethical potential of bellybuttoning. More generally, her work explores the potentiality of embodiment on an ecologically fraught and biotechnologized global landscape, from a feminist perspective. She is inspired by strange intellectual couplings, such as Deleuze and Merleau-Ponty, evolutionary biology and poetry, or hydroelectric dams and stem cells. Astrida currently serves as Chair of the Editorial Board of PhaenEx: Journal of Existential and Phenomenological Theory and Culture and is organizer of the annual “Back to the Things Themselves” international workshops, held in conjunction with the Congress of Social Sciences and Humanities.

Astrida Neimanis (B.A. McGill, M.Sc. London School of Economics, Ph.D. York) achève actuellement le manuscrit de son livre intitulé Bodies of Water, qui explore les ontologies d’incarnation et les éthiques relationnelles du point de vue de la constitution aqueuse de tous les corps. Ses projets courants continuent d’explorer notre empathie transcorporelle avec les animaux aquatiques autres (conjointement avec Mielle Chandler), les implications ontologiques des « corps d’eau, éloignés au premier degré » par les pratiques biotechnologiques des banques de spermes et l’archivage du fluide amniotique, ainsi que le potentiel éthique de « bellybuttoning ». De manière plus générale, son travail porte sur la potentialité de l’incarnation dans un paysage global biotechnologisé et écologiquement tendu, et ce, d’une perspective féministe. Les couplages intellectuels étranges l’inspire, par exemple Deleuze et Merleau-Ponty, la biologie évolutionnaire et la poésie, ou encore les barrages hydroélectriques et les cellules souches. Astrida est actuellement directrice du comité de rédaction de PhaenEx : Journal of Existential and Phenomenological Theory and Culture en plus d’être organisatrice des ateliers internationaux « Back to the Things Themselves, » tenus en conjonction avec le Congrès des sciences humaines.
