Janine MacLeod is a PhD student in the Faculty of Environmental Studies at York University. Her work condenses around the notion that water carries memory, both between diverse bodies and within landscapes of the imagination. In her doctoral research, she examines the roles of memory and affect within political and commercial discourses on water in Canada, and explores potential points of seepage through which vital meanings and histories might animate public life. She has published magazine articles and book chapters on water, environmental politics, and chemical toxicity. Her book manuscript, Liquid Bodies: water, culture and memory, is currently under consideration for publication. It reflects on the mnemonic potencies of water—chemical, metaphorical, political, affective—as these emerge in the human body’s acts of drinking, excretion, eroticism, and eventual dissolution. Janine helps to coordinate the Sustainable Writing Lab at York University, a monthly workshop series on writing as an environmental practice

Janine MacLeod est étudiante au doctorat dans la faculté des études environnementales à l’Université York. Sa pensée se condense autour de l’idée que l’eau porte la mémoire, à la fois entre les corps ainsi qu’au sein des paysages de l’imagination. Pour sa recherche, elle examine les rôles de la mémoire et de l’affect qui sont au cœur des discours politiques et commerciaux sur l’eau au Canada, et explore les points d’infiltration potentiels à travers lesquels des sens et des histoires vitaux animeraient la vie publique. Elle a publié des articles de magazines et des chapitres de livres sur l’eau, les politiques environnementales, et la toxicité chimique. Son manuscrit de livre, Liquid Bodies: water, culture and memory, est actuellement considéré pour publication. Il porte sur les emprises mnémoniques de l’eau – chimique, métaphorique, politique, affective – telles qu’elles émergent dans les actes du corps humain : boire, excrétion, érotisme et éventuelle dissolution. Janine aide à coordonner le Sustainable Writing Lab à l’Université York, un atelier mensuel sur l’écriture en tant que pratique environnementale.
