Background

Biography

Alaimo is a leading scholar in the emerging field of ecocultural studies and has published widely in this field for several decades. Her most recent work focuses on sea creatures and the specificity of watery habitats. While her own work is distinctly interdisciplinary, her expertise at the intersection of feminist theory and ecofeminism (as evidenced in her authoring and editing of widely used books in this field, namely Material Feminism [2008] and Undomesticated Ground: Recasting Nature as Feminist Space [2000])will be of great benefit to the group. A pioneer thinker in posthumanist transcorporeal ethics, Alaimo will encourage all participants to think not only about our relations to geophysical waters, but to other animal bodies of water as well. Currently, Alaimo co-chairs the President's Sustainability committee at the University of Texas at Arlington.
